William C. Short’s career in healthcare leadership was shaped by his early exposure to the field and a strong entrepreneurial spirit. Raised in a family that discussed medical advancements and patient care, he developed a profound respect for healthcare and an instinct for solving its complex problems. At 22 years old, he pioneered one of the nation’s first Health Savings Account platforms at UMB, establishing his reputation as a visionary leader who could translate complex regulations into practical, transformative solutions.
A pivotal point in William’s journey came when he guided Ameriflex through a critical period of uncertainty, transforming the company into one of the largest third-party administrators in the U.S. through strategic financial restructuring and values-driven leadership. Today, as CEO and leader of A.E. Perkins Holdings Group, Ameriflex, Accresa, and Workforce Go, his mission is to make healthcare and benefits more affordable, simpler, and more human. His personal mantra of “Solve what’s solvable, build what matters, and leave things better than you found them” reflects his leadership philosophy centered on integrity and innovation. For William, healthcare is deeply personal, and he believes in using enterprise to create lasting, generational change by developing systems that genuinely serve people.
